I want you to see the whole process, not just the highlight reel.

During yesterday’s Closing Playbook, I tried a late-day SPX experiment — a tiny-move, last-minutes structure where a small twitch can swing the payout massively.

I put it on live, and I lost 100%. That wasn’t fun to say, but it’s important.

It was an experiment, and it did exactly what experiments are supposed to do: it taught me something I can use.

Here’s the idea I was testing, in plain English:

SPX sits around the 6,600 area with $5-wide strikes. When the market only has a few minutes left, even a 0.1% move can flip a spread from “worth almost nothing” to “worth almost everything,” and back again.

That payoff geometry is real. The problem is timing.

I do not have a reliable, rules-based way to predict how the last 5 to 10 minutes of the day will play out. Until I can codify that, it stays in the lab.

What I took away (and what you can use):

  • Know what’s core vs. experimental.
I keep “fun ideas” in a small sandbox. If I haven’t built the rules, I don’t scale them.
  • The math can be right while the timing is wrong.
End-of-day moves really do whip option prices around. Without a tested entry/exit process, though, the edge is theoretical.
  • If you can’t define the exit, don’t pretend you can manage it.
In the last minutes, clicking faster isn’t a plan. A plan is something the broker can execute for you automatically when your target hits.

That’s why, when I’m putting real capital to work — especially when volatility picks up — I go back to the rules-based, defined-risk approaches I’ve spent years building.

I want trades where I don’t have to guess where the market will end up. Trades where a modest move during a clear time window is enough, and where a pre-set target closes me out without babysitting the trade.

The point is this:

I’ll keep experimenting — because experiments are how I find new edges. But I won’t kid you… until something is systematized, it’s not going to be part of my core trading.

On the other hend, if you want to see the kind of structured, high-probability setup those experiments have led me to over the years, I’m walking through one LIVE right now.

I’m LIVE right now, putting $10,000 real dollars on a real trade and showing exactly how I use higher volatility without trying to time the last few minutes of the day.
