One of my favorite setups is the overnight continuation trade — and Thursdays are hands down the best day to do it. The reason comes down to timing, risk and how the options market prices short-term moves.

Why Thursdays Stand Out

By Thursday, the weekly options cycle is almost finished. That means premiums are cheap, expiration is just one day away, and I can box a trade into a tight 24-hour window.

If the stock makes the move I’m looking for, I get paid quickly. If it doesn’t, I don’t sit around for days hoping it comes back.

I saw this recently with Robinhood (HOOD). After a sharp flush, it bounced hard and set up perfectly for a simple one-day continuation. By grabbing an at-the-money wrap order on Thursday, I only needed a small pop on Friday to lock in 50% or more.

That’s the kind of asymmetric setup I want going into the weekend.

The Power of Defined Windows

The real advantage is that Thursday trades remove the noise. I don’t need to nail the exact close or stress about what happens three days later. I just need a clean move during Friday’s session. And more often than not, that small burst of continuation is enough to hit my target and free me up before the week is done.

That’s why I lean on Thursdays. They give me the cleanest overnight continuation trades — limited risk, quick payouts and a simple window where the odds tilt in my favor.
